In the article,“Maternity leave plan already stirring debate”, it is being proposed that women on maternity leave should receive compensation of NT$13,500 (US$422) for six months, and husbands also can receive the same money in order to join the childern grown-up processes. Many people think it's not sufficient because the cost of most families depends on fathers' salaries. If people follow this policy, they only can get less money than before. So if I were man, I would not give my job up.
Maybe it will work, but actually I don't think it helps families because it doesn't fit for the circumstances. Especially right now, the enconomy is worse, so who is willing to get less money instend of high salaries? I think no one wants to do that. In this bad economy, if I were the boss, I would not agree with that policy. I lose employees, and I must find another person to substitute his/her works. After several months, one year or even two year, he/she comes back, but what should the boss do? Kick the person who substitue the work off? By the way, the article doesn't mention that who offer the money they receive, boss or government?
Anyway, I think the goernment should set the machinery to help women find jobs. Maybe some people think it is not fair, but so far I think it is a good way between employees and employers, isn't it?
